UFO Sightings

UFO sightings have long been a compelling part of history. Sightings have occurred all around the world in various places like California and Great Britain. People from all walks of life have reported seeing UFOs. Some of the greatest sightings have come from pilots because they are trained inspectors of the sky. Sightings have also been reported by famous people. CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite, former President Jimmy Carter, Jackie Gleason, Mick Jagger, John Lennon and Former President Nixon have all reportedly seen UFOs or seen alien subjects. Whether or not UFOs and aliens really do exist is a matter of speculation. One thing is for sure, there is a plethora of eyewitnesses to account for unidentified flying objects being seen in our skies.
UFO sightings can be traced back to the Bible. The most described UFO in the Bible was known as Ezekiel's Wheel, which was said to sparkle like chrysolite. Another sighting occurred in 329 BC. Alexander the Great reportedly saw two flying shields that spit fire in the sky in Central Asia. In Great Britain in 1676, Edmund Halley, the founder of Halley's Comet, saw a large mass in the sky that made a rattling noise. He watched as it flew away and he estimated that it must have traveled at a speed faster than 9,600 miles per hour. Christopher Columbus also was said to have seen a UFO while he was on the deck of the Santa Maria. Other reports where made in several different places such as Switzerland, Germany, Alaska, Canada, and China, among many others.

UFO sightings did not only occur in the early years. Many UFO sightings are very recent. In 2009 alone there have over 30 different sightings all across the United States. One of the most famous speculated UFO incidents occurred at Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. A local rancher found debris from an apparent crash and the local air field was contacted. They immediately began recovery of the wreckage. Speculation began and many people believed a UFO crashed at the sight. The air field maintained that it was really a weather balloon that had crashed. Many still believe that the government covered up proof of alien life with the Roswell incident. Area 51, a military base in Nevada, has also been a cause for UFO speculation because of the secrecy that surrounds the base and what they do. However, it has been said that the base's primary job is development of experimental aircraft and weapons.
Whether or not all of these sightings are of real UFOs or not may never be revealed to us. We may never know if alien life is truly out there or if all of these sightings are merely coincidental. In the meantime, people all over the world will continue to spot unidentified flying objects in the sky.
